Mini Produce Bag and Fruit+Veggie Scrubbies

April 2010 quick knits club pattern set [for sale here]

Fruit/veggie-shaped scrubbies - orange, strawberry, carrot, and tomato - are worked in seed stitch for a good scrubbing texture, and the mini produce bag is made with just 10 yards of bulky yarn and a piece of lace, but expands to hold a lot more fruit than you might expect! The scrubbies take about 7-8 yards of bulky yarn each, and the bag needs 10 yards, plus some lace and a t-shirt loop (or other strap fabric) for the handle.

Cabled Frame and Camera Patch

March 2010 quick knits club pattern set [for sale here]

A cabled picture frame to show off one of your favorite photos, and a camera patch to stick onto your camera bag, or tote/messenger bag/purse, or where ever you like. There's also an extra bonus idea for some bulky yarn - cover your camera's wrist strap with i-cord! 15 yards of worsted weight yarn make the frame, and 10 yards of bulky make the patch.

Argyle Cuff and Bolt

February 2010 quick knits club pattern set [for sale here]

A simple wide rectangle cuff, fastened closed by 2 buttons, with a combination of increases, decreases, and mini-cables making a textured argyle design; and a garter stitch piece with long ends that tie around the wearer's wrist, shooting out into a lightning bolt shape in the middle. 15 yards of worsted-ish weight make the argyle cuff, and 10 yards of dk-ish make bolt.

Afterthought Earflaps and Pinwheel Earmuffs

Two different ways to keep your ears toasty warm during the cold winter months - a set of earflaps that get sewn into a hat to make it more wearable in the chilly winter wind, and recycled-sweater-lined earmuffs with a fun swirly design. 10 yards of bulky weight yarn makes both earflaps, and 15 yards of bulky makes the earmuffs.

Lined Zippered Knit Coin Pouch [free!]

A very (very!) simple knit pattern, workable in pretty much any gauge, made into a cute zippered pouch with a 7" zipper, bias tape, a scrap of fabric, and lots of hand sewing. (Bulkier versions use less than 15 yards, but finer gauge versions will use more.)

Penta-Coasters [free!]

The same pattern can work for smaller, felted coasters or larger, not-felted depending on the yarn you use. A simple design, knit around with decreases creating the five sided shape, you can felt it to be straight-edged or round, and you can bring out the design by picking a variegated yarn. Use different 10-15 yard scraps to make a set of mismatched wooly coasters.

Circle Lace Cuff [free!]

A flipped symmetry design, featuring an altered version of the catherine wheels lace pattern in the book Field Guide to Knitting, and a simple lace design in the straps, this is a fun knit for anyone wanting to try lace for the first time. With 3 size options, the cuff uses around 12-16 yards of worsted weight yarn and 2 buttons.

Use a variegated yarn to bring out the chevron shape, and 3 fun buttons for the closure and embellishment in this easy cuff! Designed to be knit any width, with any gauge, the cuff could use anywhere from about 10 yards to much more than a leethal quick knit, depending on yarn choice and width.

As simple as you can get - a short, narrow strip of garter stitch - this design is made unique by your choice of yarn, button, and custom embellishments. Since it only takes 4 yards, this is a great way to use up super small amounts of leftover special yarn.
